Woodbury, New York Firefighters Battle Wind Swept Multiple Alarm Blaze

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 the Woodbury Fire Department was alerted for a possible structure fire on Bakertown Road near the Monroe Town Line.

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 the Woodbury Fire Department was alerted for a possible structure fire on Bakertown Road near the Monroe Town Line. A few moments later Woodbury Command arrived to a well involved structure at the Old Casino and requested immediate assistance from the Monroe Mombasha Fire Co.

With winds nearing a peak of 35 mph at the time of the blaze, ember showers triggered numerous some very large brush fires in addition to several shed type structures. A call went out for tankers and brush trucks and manpower from S. Blooming Grove, Washingtonville, Salisbury Mills, Mountain Lodge, Lakeside, Harriman, Chester & Tuxedo. Numerous departments were on standby at various stations.

Also assisting on scene were crews from Town of Woodbury Ambulance Corps and Mobile Life Support Services, the Town of Woodbury PD and New York State Police.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit.
