Mendham Borough, NJ House Fire

In the early hours of 3:40 a.m. on July 19th the Mendham Borough Police Dept. noticed a heavy smoke condition and a glow of fire coming from the area of the Bernardsville Mountain.

In the early hours of 3:40 a.m. on July 19th the Mendham Borough Police Dept. noticed a heavy smoke condition and a glow of fire coming from the area of the Bernardsville Mountain. Police officers arrived on scene and confirmed an address of 31 Balbrook Dr. for the fully involved working structure fire. Chief Orgera arrived on scene with an initial size up of a large 2 1/2 story single family dwelling fully involved.

First arriving apparatus arrived on scene and started knocking the fire with master streams and deck guns. Mutual aid was requested from the Mendham Twp. Fire Company for a full response, Bernardsville Fire Department for a tanker and an engine (Somerset County) and Chester Fire Company for a RIT and their tanker. It was later determined that all occupants were out of town during the blaze. The house was a total loss. Mutual aid was cleared from the scene around 6:00 a.m. Station 18 Mendham Borough Fire Department stayed on scene till around noon assisting the Morris County Prosecutors Office Arson Unit. The cause of the fire in under investigation.
