Virginia Beach (VA) firefighters responded to a house fire on July 3, 2006, on the 2600 block Wheathusk Court. Deputy Fire Marshall Jerry Chiusano was nearby and rolled into the court reporting heavy fire on Side B and took command.
Engine 5 arrived moments later and stretched attack lines and entered the structure. A severe lighting storm that moved through the area earlier struck the house, allowing the fire to gain headway in the attic.
Firefighters worked aggressively to search for the fire and knock it down. The mid 90 degree heat took its toll on the fire crews so an additional engine and ladder were dispatched.
A volunteer firefighter living next door to the fire entered the house and grabbed the resident's cat.
No injuries were report.
