Jersey City NJ, On June 30th at 0001 hours a verbal alarm from the quarters of the Jersey City Fire Department Car 26 (GONG CLUB) of a working fire in a store at 171 Newark Ave.

Jersey City NJ, On June 30th at 0001 hours a verbal alarm from the quarters of the Jersey City Fire Department Car 26 (GONG CLUB) of a working fire in a store at 171 Newark Ave, a 3 story Taxpayer 25 X150 attached to a 1 sty taxpayer and a 3 sty mixed occupancy.

Battalion 1 arrived on scene to find heavy fire on the first floor of a beauty salon with extension to the floors above. Access to the first floor was hampered by roll down gates that had to cooled down in order to get near them. Fire was knocked down on the first floor but was running the front of the building. Deputy Chief Kearny arrived on scene to take command and after interior crews were having a hard time making progress he struck the second alarm.

Just as the second alarm companies arrived and Tower Ladder 4 was setting up in front of the building, heavy fire started to vent from the front of the building. As soon as Tower ladder 4 and Ladder 6 open there master streams, the heavy fire was quickly knocked down and interior crews moved back in to get the fire under control by 0111 hours.
