Structure Fire in Fairfax County, Virginia

At approximatly 10:30 am, a structure fire was reported on Windcloud Court in the Oakton section of Fairfax County, Virginia.

At approximatly 10:30 am, a structure fire was reported on Windcloud Court in the Oakton section of Fairfax County, Virginia.

Fairfax 1, the Police Department helicopter was in the area reporting a heavy cloud of black smoke.

The first arriving Engine 434 reported a very large single family home, with the roof and 2nd floor well involved.

Several minutes later, Engine 434 and Truck 403 sounded a mayday. They were trapped by a section of floor that had given way. They were able to effect and escape by using a ladder thrown to the 2nd floor.

A second alarms was requested due to the fire and the humid weather. All occupants were out of the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
