At approximately 5:30 pm, Kernersville E-41, T-41, Squad 41, BC-41, and Piney Grove E-132 were dispatched to a house fire on North Main Street. Communications corrected that address to South Main Street which added E-42.

BC-41 advised he had smoke visible from the station and to let E-132 proceed. Upon arrival, BC-41 advised he had a two story wood frame residence with heavy smoke and fire visible. He initiated a 2nd alarm to provide RIT and extra manpower.

During the walk around it was noticed there was a car in the driveway and the occupant could not be accounted for so crews immediately entered the structure to contain the fire and begin searching.

T-41 proceeded to the roof to cut a vent hole.

A Mayday was called after one firefighter fell through the floor but he was rescued by his own crew and treated for minor injuries.

Crews were pulled back and deck guns were used to knock the remaining fire down.

The house was a total loss with the probable cause being a heating pad left on the couch from earlier that morning.

The occupant was not home at the time of the fire.

The Talley's Crossing Fire Department provided fill in coverage with E-125 and E-225 and responded to several calls for Kernersville during the incident.
