Large Mill Goes Up In Flames in Woonsocket, Rhode Island

Around 2:15 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2006, Woonsocket Fire Department received numerous calls for a mill on fire at the Thurston Mills Complex on Villanova Street.

Around 2:15 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2006, Woonsocket Fire Department received numerous calls for a mill on fire at the Thurston Mills Complex on Villanova Street.

When crews arrived on scene they found a three story mill complex well involved and spreading rapidly. Command quickly struck a general alarm and asked for numerous mutual aid to the scene. Crews knew quickly they had there hands full because of the direction of the wind.

The wind was blowing straight for houses on Morton Street. Mutual aid was asked to respond to Morton St. for brand problems.

In all numerous houses were damaged and one was completely consumed by the fast moving fire. Mutual Aid from as far away as Warwick, RI responded to the scene.

Nobody was hurt in the blaze.

Crews remained all night to put out the fire.

The cause is still yet unknown.
