At approximately 1:35 pm this afternoon the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 1838 Hidden Harbor Road in Hixson, Tennessee.

The first engine company to arrive reported a working structure fire and requested the next engine lay a supply line from the closest fire hydrant. Shortly thereafter two more pieces of fire apparatus and several firefighters from Dallas Bay arrived and began helping fight the blaze.

Mutual aid assistance was requested from Red Bank and Soddy Daisy Fire Departments and each sent one engine company and manpower to assist.

At 2:10 pm command advised all firefighters that the wall on the south end of the house was unstable and at 2:27 pm called for an interior backout. At 2:40 the wall was reported down. At 2:42 pm the fire was reported knocked down and under control.

Reports from a relative of the owners, Doug and Susan Jaquith are that the fire originated in a gas dryer in or near the garage of the house.

This relative stated that Mrs. Jaquith discovered the blaze, ran outside and then tried to re-enter the home but could not because of the heavy fire and smoke. The exact cause is being investigated and has not yet been determined.

The house suffered major damage and is uninhabitable. The total dollar amount of the damage is unknown.

There were no injuries reported. Hamilton County EMS was on the scene to provide assistance if needed.
