New York Firefighters Battle Structure Fire

The Hempstead fire department received multiple calls for smoke in the area on Front Street in Hempstead. When Chief George Sandas arrived, he reported a working fire in a 3-story wood frame dwelling.

Hempstead, New York -- The Hempstead fire department received multiple calls for smoke in the area on Front Street in Hempstead. When Chief George Sandas arrived, he reported a working fire in a 3-story wood frame dwelling.

The 1st engines in deployed lines into the house but were backed out due to heavy fire and smoke. After all members were removed from the building the truck companies were put in placed for a defensive operation. A long overhaul went well into the morning and the house was a total loss.

No injuries were reported.
