Refton Fire Company was dispatched for a vehicle accident on Refton Road in Strasburg Township on Sunday, April 2nd, around 6:16 pm.

Units arrived to find an Amish horse and buggy accident with the horse dangling over the side of a bridge. The Amish buggy was still attached to the horse.

Willow Street Rescue was requested for their A frame and a veterinarian was also requested to the scene to sedate the horse.

The horse was apparently spooked while trying to cross the bridge which was constructed of open steel work.

Despite the heroic rescue attempts of the firefighters the horse did not survive the traumatic ordeal.
