At approximately 1430 on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 members of Central County Fire & Rescue responded to the report of a residential structure fire.

The Cottleville Fire Protection District and St. Charles City Fire Department assisted with automatic aid. The first arriving engine found the rear of a two story structure heavily involved. The company also found the roof of the side two exposure to be involved.

A second alarm was called bringing the balance of Central County Fire & Rescue apparatus and additional mutual aid companies to the scene.

Multiple handlines and one aerial device were used in the primarily defensive attack.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries during the alarm as he fell from the roof of the exposure building, due to slick cedar shake roofing material.

One occupant was in the home at the time of the fire and escaped without injury prior to the arrival of the fire companies.
