Accident in Chicago, Illinois

In the mid morning hours Chicago firefighters responded to the outbound (southbound) Dan Ryan Expressway for a traffic accident.

March 28, 2006 - In the mid-morning hours, Chicago firefighters responded to the outbound (southbound) Dan Ryan Expressway (near U.S. Cellular Field) for a traffic accident. The influx of calls and information recieved prompted fire alarm operators to send extra fire equipment. A small passenger car had rear ended an 18 wheeler. A dump truck behind the passenger vehicle could not stop in time.

As a result the passenger vehicle was smashed like an accordion trapping the driver. Firefighters from eng co.29, truck co.11, the 2nd battalion, and the members of the Illinois Department of Transportation were successful in extricating the victim. Ambulance 1 transported the victim to the hospital.

The Dan Ryan Expressway is scheduled for a massive construction project starting in april that will last for three years.
