On Sunday, March 26, 2006, at approximately 2:05 pm, the Blue Island Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple calls of a structure fire at the R.C. grinding company at 14410 S. Western Avenue in Posen, Illinois.

Upon arrival of Posen Captain 2840, she found a vehicle well into a building, fully involved in fire, with the driver of the car laying in the middle of Western Avenue.

A full still was requested thru MABAS Division 22, bringing mutual aid from: Blue Island, Midlothian, Dixmoor, and Oak Forest Fire Departments.

Two witnesses to the crash pulled the driver from the burning car. The driver was going south on Western Aveue at a very high rate of speed, went across a rail road crossing and slammed into the building.

When the vehicle hit the building, it set off the buildings fire sprinkler system, which helped knock some of the flames down.

Crews made a quick knockdown of the vehicle fire, and checked the building for any extension.

The driver was transported to St. James Olympia Fields Trauma Center in serious condition.
