Fire Consumes Four Houses, Damages Three Others in New Jersey

Firefighters responded to 792 Westside Avenue, on a reported structure fire around 1am.

Jersey City, N.J. - Firefighters responded to 792 Westside Avenue, on a reported structure fire around 1am.

Upon arrival fire fighters found heavy fire in a 2.5 story frame building that housed several businesses on the first floor and apartments above.

The fire extended rapidly to the exposures on the C-side of the building and started to run the cocklofts of 449-457 Fairmount Avenue. All 6 buildings were 2.5 story frame dwellings.

Numerous master streams and several ladder pipes were used to battle the blaze.

The fire escalated to four alarms before being brought under control.

The fire was placed under control around 5:30 am.

One fire fighter was injured and numerous people were displaced by the fire.
