MVA on U.S. Rt. 360 in Virginia Results in Extrication, Fatality

On January 31, 2004, at 11:45 AM, Eastern Hanover Station 3 and East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad were dispatched to U.S. Rt. 360 and Old Calvary Ln. for a 2 vehicle accident: car vs. pick-up, 1 vehicle over turned with possible entrapment.

Tanker 3, Medic 145 and Battalion 4 were on the initial assignment. Chief 3 then requested Squad 7.

East Hanover Medic 145 marked on scene and advised that they did have entrapment and possibly 2 DOAs. Battalion 4 marked on scene and assumed command, advising he had a 2 vehicle accident with a pickup on its side, and also requested an additional engine company. Engine Company 7 was then dispatched.

Tanker 3 and Squad 7's crews stabilized the vehicle and extricated 1 patient from the pickup. Medic 145 transported 1 unresponsive patient from the car to the Medical College of Virginia. A second medic unit from East Hanover transported the entrapped victim as well as a second victim from the pick up that was not entrapped.

There was one fatality in the car.

All station 7 units went in service while Battalion 4 and Tanker 3 remained on scene to assist the Hanover Sheriffs Office crash team.
