Mount Prospect, Illinois Firefighters Fight Fatal Below Zero House Fire

Mount Prospect Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire. Engine 12 was on the scene first with heavy fire coming from the basement windows.

Engine 12 was on the scene first with heavy fire coming from the basement windows.

Mount Prospect command requested a code 4 alarm for a working fire. Fire Fighters made an interior attack and firefighters cut hole in the roof and found fire in the attic so command requested everyone out of building and made this a defensive fire. They were told everyone was out of the building by a man that was unsure about how many people were inside that man was treated and taken to northwest community hospital in Arlington Heights.

Firefighters used several hand lines to fight this fire thru the windows and front doors.

Firefighters were able to make an interior attack after knocking the fire down. They found a 72-year-old woman inside. She was taken to Northwest community Hospital.

The fire took roughly an hour and a half before it was under control.

This fire is under investigation at this time by Mount Prospect Investigators and The State Fire Marshals Office. Command also asked for change of quarters and a box alarm, due to the below zero temps with 25 to 35 below zero wind chills.

Mutual aid was given by Desplaines, Arlington Heights, Rosemont, Elk Grove, Niles, Elk Grove Village, Glenview, State Fire Marshals Office.
