Gurnee Firefighters responded from Station 2 to Grand Avenue over I-294 for a 4 car accident.
First units on the scene found two of the four cars with heavy damage and one car on fire.
Two people were trapped in the cars with one of the cars on fire.
Command asked for an extra engine and a landing zone for the helicopters.
Command asked for 2 helicopters for two people with serious injuries.
Companies worked for about 20 minutes to free the people.
Both patients were transported with serious injuries.
