At 1:10 am, on Sunday February 12, 2006, a home owner in the Town of Pine River called 911 to report the smell of smoke on the second story of a farm house.

At 1:10 am, on Sunday February 12, 2006, a home owner in the Town of Pine River called 911 to report the smell of smoke on the second story of a farm house.

A Lincoln County Deputy arrived a short time later and assisted the elderly couple out of the house as flames started to consume the second floor. When firefighters from the Town of Pine River Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene heavy flames were showing from the second story of the home and had extended down to the siding on the first floor of the west side of the home.

Pine River firefighters with assistance from the Town's of Texas and Russell Volunteer Fire Departments were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

The fire damage was limited to the second story of the house. The remainder of the home suffered water damage.

The Pine River Volunteer Fire Department is in it's second month of operation after being formed in 2005 and taking over the fire contract for the township from the City of Merrill as of January 1, 2006.
