Phillipsburg, NJ 1/26/04 - A fast moving fire gutted a rental home on the 200 block of Chambers Street and caused fire, smoke, and water damage to an attached home. The fire completely engulfed the home by the time firefighters and police responded and soon spread to the attached home. Balloon construction contributed to rapid fire. Roof operations were hampered by a tree in front of the structure which had to be cut to gain access. Power lines were quickly cut down by the power company.

The fire took three engines and one tower ladder from Phillipsburg, one rear mount ladder from neighboring Delaware Park Fire Company in Lopatcong Township and Phillipsburg Rescue Squad. There were no injuries caused by the fire. Police and the Warren County Prosecutors Office are continuing the investigation as to the cause and origin of the fire.
