Vacant Dwelling Fire in Irvington, New Jersey

At 12:27 am, the Irvington, New Jersey Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 100 Ellis Avenue for a reported fire.

At 12:27 am, the Irvington, New Jersey Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 100 Ellis Avenue for a reported fire.

The first due unit reported a working fire on the 1st floor of a vacant 2.5 story frame dwelling extending to a 2.5 story frame on the D-side.

A second alarm was immediately transmitted followed by a third alarm. Both buildings rapidly became fully involved in fire and were extending to the exposures on either side.

Multiple handlines were used as well as two ladder pipes to control the blaze. A total of 4 buildings were involved in fire. 95 and 97 Ellis Avenue totally destroyed. 93 and 99 Ellis suffered fire damage as well.

Firefighters from Newark and Hillside operated on scene, while East Orange, Maplewood, and Millburn covered the city.

One Hillside Firefighter suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
