An early afternoon fire damages 12 condos in the Birch Point Condominium Complex in The Pike Creek Section of New Castle County.

At 12:19 pm, on January 17, 2006, New Castle County Fire Board dispatched Stations 2-21 Mill Creek, Station 19 Hockessin, Stations 7-8-9 for an Engine and Rescue, Belvedere Squirt 30, Cranston Heights Station 14 for the RIT, Elsmere for A-16 and Medic 7 to a reported town house fire, with fire through the roof at 3300 Haley Court.

Minutes later, Quint 2-7 arrived and reported heavy fire through the roof of a 3 story town house. The fire was quickly spreading through the common attic of the complex and was threatening the units in building 3400.

An interrior attack was attempted but due to the rapidly spreading fire and numerous roof colapses the building was evacuated. Three master streams were placed into service along with numerous hand lines.

At one point the whole roof line was involved along with condos on three floors at the Bravo-Charley corner.

The second alarm was struck at 12:53 pm, bringing additional units from Elmsere Station 16, Minquas Station 23, Five Pointst Station 17, Christiana Stations 3-6-12, and Chester County Station 24.

The bulk of the heavy fire was knocked down after an hour and the fire was placed under control at 3:40 pm.

Firefighters were able to rescue 3 pets however one residents animal did not make it.

There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.

The cause of the fire was being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal.
