Springfield, Mass. Firefighters Battle Vacant Factory Blaze

A December 31, 3:45 a.m. fire in a building over 100,000 square feet, left the building completely burned out. It also caused the evacuation of several neighboring houses.

A December 31, 3:45 a.m. fire in a building over 100,000 square feet, left the building completely burned out. It also caused the evacuation of several neighboring houses.

This general-alarm fire brought in every on-duty Springfield firefighter to battle this spectacular blaze. Mutual aid was also called at the fire scene for the local communities of West Springfield and Longmeadow.

The blaze was confined to the original structure. No exposures suffered damage, some were as close as 20 feet away

The fire crews and the command staff that battled this blaze can be proud of a job well done in the containment of this massive fire that threatened many homes in the surrounding neighborhood.
