Confined Space Rescue in Howard County, Maryland

At approximately 2pm, on the afternoon of January 10, 2006, units from Howard County Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the Nestle Ice Cream Plant on the 9000 Block of Whiskey Bottom Road.

At approximately 2pm, on the afternoon of January 10, 2006, units from Howard County Fire & Rescue were dispatched to the Nestle Ice Cream Plant on the 9000 Block of Whiskey Bottom Road, for the report of one trapped in a manhole.

Almost immediately, several staff officers from HCFR were on the scene, as they were in the complex.

The patient was extricated from the manhole by HCFR special operations personnel from Station 10, who utilized a rope rescue system.

The patient was then packaged for transport, and transported via Maryland State Police medevac to an area trauma center for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
