Texas Accident Rescue with Helicopter Transport

On December 28, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. the Grandview Fire Department was dispatched to a 1-car MVA on Interstate 35 at FM 2258.

On December 28, 2003 at 11:30 a.m. the Grandview Fire Department was dispatched to a 1-car MVA on Interstate 35 at FM 2258.

Engine 175 and Medic 175 responded to the scene. While Engine 175 was enroute, they were advised that a helicopter would be needed to transport the patient to a hospital and that Careflite Air was put enroute at that time.

Upon Engine 175's arrival they saw one vehicle that hit head on into a concrete pillar underneath the overpass. Removal of both drivers side doors with a dash raise was required for patient removal. Extrication time was about 15 minutes from their arrival on scene.

The interstate was shut down for about 30 minutes while Careflite Air was on the scene. The patient was loaded into the helicopter and transported in critical condition to Harris Methodist in Fort Worth, Texas.
