Dog is Hero in Newburgh, New York 2-Alarm Fire

Shortly before 11 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2003, City of Newburgh firefighters were alerted for a possible structure fire in the 100 Block of North St. Car-4 (A/C D. Carpenter) arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing and a man and his dog trapped on a porch roof.

Shortly before 11 AM on Tuesday, December 16, 2003, City of Newburgh firefighters were alerted for a possible structure fire in the 100 Block of North St. Car-4 (A/C D. Carpenter) arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing and a man and his dog trapped on a porch roof.

A second alarm was transmitted for a re-call of off-duty personnel and units from Coldenham and Good Will to cover the City Main Station, and an additional request for an Engine from Cronomer Valley and Stewart Air Guard to the scene to assist a short while later.

The home's occupant was awaken by his dog "Rocky" and the 2 made it out onto the porch roof where they were rescued by City of Newburgh Firefighters. As the dogs owner was being evaluated by medical personnel, "Rocky" was enjoying his new found "Hero" status posing for Pictures with the Media.
