Heavy fire and smoke were showing from Baltimore County complex.

Three people were injured Monday in a 4-alarm fire at an apartment complex for elderly people in Reisterstown.

Firefighters got the call around 8 a.m. and arrived at the 300 block of Cantata Court to find heavy fire and smoke shooting from the roof of the 5-story complex.

Elise Armacost, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County fire department, said one person was taken to Shock Trauma to be treated for smoke inhalation. The other two injuries were minor. Those patients were taken to Northwest Hospital Center.

Armacost said the building had 80 units. 64 of them were occupied. She said it appears nearly everyone was able to get out on their own.

The fire occurred in an apartment building of the Meadows at Reisterstown, an independent living apartment complex for seniors.

The Red Cross has been called in to help find shelter for up to 70 people who have been displaced by the fire.

Armacost said two dogs were also rescued.
