Bone chilling winds and gas fed flames were among the difficulties encountered by Montgomery County, Maryland firefighters battling a two alarm commercial building fire on Sunday, December 7, 2003.

First arriving firefighters on the 9 A.M. box alarm found heavy smoke showing from a restaurant on the first floor of a two story, 150x100 commercial building on Colesville Road in the downtown Silver Spring section of the county.

Flames quickly spread upwards to the second floor, venting out the windows in the front of the building. Despite the heavy fire conditions, an interior attack remained in place, preventing the fire from extending throughout the second floor.

It took the equivalent of a second alarm assignment approximately forty five minutes to bring the blaze under control. There were no injuries.
