Richton Park, Illinois Fire Department Responds to Fatal Cargo Truck Crash

On December 12, 2005, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Richton Park, Illinois Fire Department responded to a reported cargo truck vs. tree, with heavy entrapment on Interstate 57 near Sauk Trail Road.

On December 12, 2005, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Richton Park, Illinois Fire Department responded to a reported cargo truck vs. tree, with heavy entrapment on Interstate 57 near Sauk Trail Road.

Under command of Deputy Chief Michael Pope, crews had a very difficult time removing the driver. Tthe cab was embeded into a group of large trees with diesel fuel and oil spilling.

This extrication took a little over 3 hours to complete.

A large heavy duty wrecker had to be brought in to pull the truck out of the tree line. Once that was done, crews were able to complete the extrication of the driver who did not survive this crash.

The Illinois State Police are currently investigating the cause of this accident.
