Philadelphia Firefighters Battle Four Alarm Warehouse Fire

Just after 1 PM Box 5386 was struck for a building fire at 3027 Stokley St. the Pennock Company. Battalion Chief 8 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing from the rear of a one story building, 150x200.

All hands placed in service on arrival. Command advised the building was a florist warehouse and had hazardous chemicals located inside.

The second alarm was struck for heavy fire in the rear of the building. All companies were ordered out of the building due to a rear wall collapse and heavy fire conditions through out the building.

An exterior operation was established with deck guns and ladder pipes. A large mill type building on the "D" side was a major exposure problem because the building was only a few feet from the fire building. Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the exposure.

The fire went to four alarms and was fanned by gusty winds. No injuries were reported.
