Mechanicstown Responds to Overturned Gasoline Tanker

Mechanicstown firefighters respond to an overturned gasoline tanker on Rt 17.

At approx 1 am on Saturday Mechanicstown Firefighters were alerted for a tractor trailer rollover on Rt 17 in the area of Interstate 84. While enroute units were advised the vehicle rolled over was a Mobil gasoline tanker truck and that the tank was leaking heavily.

Mechanicstown Chief Paul Smith arrived and assumed command and requested the Orange County Haz Mat Team and numerous tankers for water supply as well a foam crash truck from Stewart Airguard FD. Units from Silver Lake, City of Middletown, Goshen, Slate Hill, New Hampton, Circleville, Maybrook and Montgomery FD's assisted at scene while several others were on standby.

Also assisting on scene were units from Mobile Life Support, NYS Encon Police, NYS DEC Spill Team, Town of Wallkill PD, Orange County Sheriff's, NYS Police, Miller Enviromental Group and Quality Towing, the truck had a load of 14,000 and approx 1,500 gallons was spilled.
