Newark, New Jersey 2nd Alarm Blaze Damages Two Homes

On November 25, 2003, at approximately 9:11 AM, a radio alarm from Truck Co.7 reported a fire in the area of 6th Avenue & 5th Street. BC3 radioed heavy smoke in the area and requested the box transmitted.

Upon arrival Engine 15 reported heavy fire 2nd floor in a 2.5 story frame at 240 N.5th Street with exposure problem on side B.

The battalion chief arrived and transmitted a working fire signal. Moments after, the BC reported extension into another 2.5 story frame on the B side and requested the 2nd Alarm. Interior lines were advanced into the fire buildings.

A child was removed with some smoke inhalation and EMS was requested to the scene to have the child checked out.

Heavy fire extended up into the 3rd floor of both houses. Trucks opened the roof and interior lines stopped the fire.

The fire was placed under control in approximately 25 minutes. An additional truck was special called to assist with overhaul.

Both 240 & 242 had heavy fire damage on the upper floors.
