An area hit hard by hurricanes Katrina and Rita continues to have what seems like more than their share of working incidents. Third District Volunteer Fire Department uses four stations to protect an area of Jefferson Parish, which is adjacent to New Orleans.

On Saturday afternoon, units from TDVFD responded to reports of fire shortly before 4:00 p.m., in a commercial garage facility. First arriving units found a working fire in the attached building used as an office for the repair shop. Units laid LDH supply lines to two hydrants as Command called for additional units.

An aggressive interior attack was initiated in the office section of the complex. Operations Section was established and soon it was determined that the fire had spread into the main building. Additional lines were deployed using the already open garage bay doors for access.

The Metarie Power Sports Company was open at the time of the fire. Employees had escaped on their own and one was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.

There were at least three vehicles inside the facility at the time of the fire.

TDVFD responded with four engines, one tower ladder, one squad and an air support unit as well as command staff. Three 1
