On Tuesday, December 6th, Engine Companies 2, and 4; Rescue 2, and a Powhatan ambulance were dispatched to a vehicle accident with a person trapped at Winterfield and Huguenot Trail.

Four's Engine arrived to find a dump truck vs. car accident. The dump truck went through the guardrail, over a 15 foot embankment, hit some trees, and landed on its side. The driver was pinned by the steering wheel, and the roof of the dump truck was crushed.

All hands went to work using hydraulic tools to cut and push the roof out of the way, and to cut the steering wheel to free the patient. While this was going on, other firefighters were busy setting up two ladders down the steep, snowy, muddy embankment so the driver could be carried up the steep hill once he was extricated.

The firefighters worked quickly and had the driver extricated within 13 minutes after they arrived on scene.
