The injured firefighter, Michael Williams, was responding to a large brush fire when he lost control in a sharp curve on CO RD 26. The truck was believed to have flipped several time before rolling off the bridge and falling 20-30ft down to the riverbank.

At some point in time, Mike was thrown from the truck and found on the bridge by EMS personnel. He was airlifted to University Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent emergency surgery due to a massive head injury.

As of November 29, 2005, Mike's condition has improved greatly and he was cleared to be moved to a rehab facility. He is expected to make a full recovery after extensive rehab.

Firefighter Michael Williams is constantly supported by many friends and family including his wife and two small children.
