Camden, New Jersey Firefighter Injured Fighting Two Alarmer

Camden Firefighters were dispatched to the 1100 block of North 31st Street for a reported apartment fire.

First in units found heavy smoke and fire showing from the second floor of the two story Garden Style Apartment Complex.

The fire was now into two apartments.

Battalion Chief 2 (Phelps) requested the second alarm.

Ladder companies were on the roof making a trench cut as firefighters were making an aggressive interior attack trying to cut off the fire.

Members of Engine 11 and Ladder 3 had made there way to the second floor of the burning apartment finding heavy fire over there heads, when part of the ceiling came crashing down on them. One firefighter from 11 (John Anderson) was injured. His coat was burned from the collapse.

After 25 minutes, firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to the adjoining units. Deputy Chief Car 3 (Yates) placed the fire under control.

Firefighter Anderson was treated and taken to Cooper Hospital by Camden EMS.

The fire is being investigated by the Camden Fire Marshal Office.
