East Orange NJ Responds To Vacant House Fire

Heavy fire was venting from the 1st floor extending up to the 2nd FL. Heavy smoke was pushing from all floors of the house.

October 10, 0755 hours, just as the 2nd tour was changing shifts with tour 1 an alarm was received for a fire in a vacant building at 74 Chestnut Street. Upon arrival DC Straut reported heavy fire in a vacant 2.5 story wood frame.

A 2nd truck company was special called to scene. Heavy fire was venting from the 1st floor extending up to the 2nd FL. Interior lines advanced inside and knocked down the fire on the 1st FL. Heavy smoke was pushing from all floors of the house. Truck 2 ladder pipe was positioned on side D to protect the exposure in case the fire lit up on the upper floors. Interior crews made the 2nd floor and knocked down heavy fire that was running the walls and burning through the floors.

East Orange Fire Department new recruits that are in training responded to the scene to assist in overhauling and hose pick up to get their first taste of fire. The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident. EOFD Arson Squad are investigating the fire.
