A 2 vehicle accident involving a dump truck and a SUV at the off ramp of SR 501 and SR 22.

On 13 Oct 2003 at 1400 hrs. Horry County Communications received a call for a 2 vehicle accident involving a dump truck and a SUV at the off ramp of SR 501 and SR 22.

Emergency preparedness director Randy Webster arrived first to confirm both vehicles on their side with entrapments in both vehicles. Director Webster requested 4 sets of Jaws and instructed E241 to start work on the SUV first.

E241 arrived and used their O-cutter to flap the roof of the SUV and removed the occupant and turned over care to Medic 245 who transported the patient to Conway Hospital in stable condition. Battalion 2 Justin Gibbins, arrived and assumed command and instructed Rescue 2 from the Horry County Volunteer Rescue Squad to proceed in and tend to the dump truck and its trapped occupant.

The dump truck had lost its entire load of gravel and slid 100 feet before coming to rest. Rescue 2 arrived and used cribbing and paratech struts to stabilize the cab. They then utilized 2 reciprocating saws, the o-cutters and 2 rams to remove the occupant.

Medic 295 then transferred the second patient to Conway Hospital in critical condition. Units Responding-Horry County Fire Rescue E241, E161, E231, M245, M295, B1, B2, EPD1, Horry County Volunteer Rescue Squad-Rescue 2.
