Delaware Firefighters Respond to Truck vs Train Accident

Shortly after 2 PM on October 13, 2003, units from Aetna Hose, Hook, & Ladder Co. of Newark, Delaware (Stations 7,8,& 9), Chrsitiana Fire Company (Stations 3,6,& 12), New Castle County Paramedics, and Trooper 4 Helo responded to the Conrail Rail Road crossing on Old Baltimore pike for an MVC vehicle vs. train.

Shortly after 2 PM on October 13, 2003, units from Aetna Hose, Hook, & Ladder Co. of Newark, Delaware (Stations 7,8,& 9), Chrsitiana Fire Company (Stations 3,6,& 12), New Castle County Paramedics, and Trooper 4 Helo responded to the Conrail Rail Road crossing on Old Baltimore pike for an MVC vehicle vs. train.

First arriving units found a roll back tow truck had struck a train at the crossing. The front end was completely destroyed, and the driver was trapped.

Units were able to rapidly extricate the driver and begin treatment. Once the driver was packaged, he was flown to Christiana ER by Trooper 4.

The road was closed for a lengthy period of time for clean-up.
