PA Commercial Structure Fire

A commercial structure fire with chemical explosions, 19 agencies participated in the call.

At 0003 hour on Saturday September 6, 2003, Collier Twp Fire Departments, Bridgeville, Pa. were dispatched to a commercial structure fire.

Chief 125 went into service he reported heavy smoke in there area. On arrival Engine 125 reported heavy fire requesting additional alarms. Crews began an aggressive interior attack, but were soon evacuated due to imminent structural collapse. Units then changed to defensive mode and began exterior attack with multiple master streams.

The structure housed multiple businesses. Some of the businesses contained 55 gallon drums of unknown chemicals that resulted in some spectacular explosions. By the fires end the following morning 19 agencies had participated in the call.
