Firefighters from the City of Santa Clara Fire Department were dispatched to a large apartment complex at 444 Saratoga Avenue at approximately 5pm, on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, after a report of smoke from a centrally located complex recreation building.

Arriving crews quickly assessed the situation and set about cutting the roof to provide ventilation. Interior attack was made difficult by the sheer volume of smoke and fire concentrated within the structure, but crews did manage to gain the upper hand within approximately 30 minutes.

Crews were able to contain the fire to one side of the building, while also successfully salvaging much of the remainder of the structure.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at the time of this submission.
