A head on collision on North Highway 89 north of the Drake overpass claimed three lives Friday evening at the Start of the Labor Day weekend. Paramedics of the Chino Valley Fire District and Ash Fork Fire Department treated injured at the scene as two helicopters transported the injured to Phoenix area hospitals.

Two people died on scene and one person died in route to the hospital, according to Chief Chuck Tandy, CVFD. Cause of the incident is under investigation by DPS, but is believed to have been caused when a California driver lost control of his pickup and crossed the center line during heavy rain and lost control.

Units from Chino Valley Fire District, stations 61 and 63 responded to the rural area about 18 miles north of the town and were aided in rescue and EMS efforts by Ash Fork Fire Department. Two air ambulance helicopters were dispatched to the scene, some 38 miles north of Prescott Arizona, the nearest hospital.
