Elizabeth, New Jersey Bravest Battle Smokey 2- Alarm Store Fire

On September 23, 2005 at 5:31 pm, Elizabeth, New Jersey Fire Department Transmiited Box 1267 for a reported fire at 25 Westfield Avenue at the Family Dollar Store.

DC Peterson arrived and reported heavy smoke showing from a 1 story brick commercial with a 2 story setback. All Hands went to work on arrival.

Interior lines were stretched and truck companies opened up.

Command post was set up on side A of the fire building.

DC Wirkus arrived on scene and acted as the Accountability Officer.

The 2nd Alarm was then struck by DC4. Interior crews were forced to evacuate for a short time due to heavy fire in the rear.

At 5:50 pm, the 3rd Alarm was struck bringing Union Township Truck Company and Linden Engine on Mutual Aid to the scene.

Chief of Department Edward Sisk arrived on scene and assumed command of the incident.

Elizabeth's new Tower Ladder set up on side A of the fire building.

The fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Companies remained on scene with extensive overhaul.
