Steelton, Pennsylvania Firefighters Battle 2 Alarm Row Home fire

On August 14, 2003 at 1814 hours Dauphin County, PA Box 501 hit out for a reported structure fire at 24 N. Second Street in Steelton Borough located just south of Harrisburg City.

On August 14, 2003 at 1814 hours Dauphin County, PA Box 501 hit out for a reported structure fire at 24 N. Second Street in Steelton Borough located just south of Harrisburg City. A heavy smoke column could be seen prior to fire department arrival.

First-in Steelton Engine 50 had heavy fire showing from a hallway located in the middle of a group of 2.5 story, frame row homes. Within minutes the fire extended vertically and spread via the cockloft.

A second alarm was struck at 1832 hours bringing numerous volunteers from Dauphin and Cumberland Counties to the scene.

No injuries were reported, although several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion on the scene. Two cats were rescued from the structure.

Units on the scene included: Engines 31 (Edgemont), 41 (Bressler), 43 (Oberlin), 456 (Chambers Hill), 50 (Steelton), 55, 55-1 (Highspire), 56 (Middletown), 59 (Lower Swatara), 2-13 (Lemoyne), Tower 3 (Harrisburg City), Truck 32 (Progress), 456 (Chambers Hill), 12 (Lower Allen), Rescue 40 (Paxtang), 44 (Lawnton), 48 (Hershey), 50 (Steelton), 59 (Lower Swatara). Squad 57 (Middletown), and Air 30 (Penbrook), 41 (Bressler).
