A UPS Big Rig collided with an automobile, sending both vehicles into a gas station at the intersection of Vignes and Alameda Streets in downtown Los Angeles.

L.A. Firefighters first on scene requested a "physical rescue assignment" bringing in an additional truck company and the heavy rescue.

Firefighters had the tractor double trailer move forward several feet so they could get better access to the drivers side of the crumpled auto. They utilized the "Jaws" and "Cutters" to free the trapped driver of the auto.

Extrication took approximately 40 minutes. He was transported in critical condition to a local area hospital via L.A. Paramedics.

The truck driver was not injured.

The cause of the late night crash is under investigation.
