Shortly before 3:30pm Hatfield Firefighters responded to I-91, exit 21, for a vehicle fire.
Command confirmed a working fire as Engine 1 arrived on scene with thick black smoke billowing from the engine compartment. While prepping an attack line, a dry chemical knockdown was performed, followed by a foam attack.
The driver of the vehicle noticed a faint burning smell with brake failure and cautiously exited I-91 into Hatfield. Upon stopping, the engine compartment was fully involved. The driver and family dog escaped the burning vehicle unharmed.
Cause of the fire is undetermined and no injuries were reported.
