Three Injured in Rhode Island 3-Alarm Blaze

Late in the afternoon, on July 1, 2003, three people were forced to jump out of the second floor windows of a 2.5 story Woonsocket, RI structure.

Late in the afternoon, on July 1, 2003, three people were forced to jump out of the second floor windows of a 2.5 story Woonsocket, RI structure. This was the 4th fire to occur in Woonsocket since Friday, three have gone to multiple alarms, including the spectacular 8 alarm mill fire.

Firefighters arrived shortly before 1700hrs at Elbow and East School Street to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the building. Extra alarms were quickly requested as the companies began their attack. First alarm companies performed a quick primary search and attempted to extinguish the fire but due to the deteriorating conditions, they were withdrawn.

Heavy fire broke through the roof and ladder pipes and deck guns were placed in service to protect the exposures and knock down the fire. Mutual aid from Cumberland, Burrillville, North Smithfield, Glocester and Blackstone MA assisted Woonsocket.

The three injured parties were transported to Landmark Hospital, their conditions are unknown. No injuries to firefighters were reported and the fire is under investigation.
