On August 8, 2005, while finishing up working a 2- car MVC on Interstate 55, just south of the city limits, an 18-wheeler rear-ended a state troopers car that was blocking the right-hand lane.
The 18-wheeler completely ran over the troopers car and pushed it into Engine 9, eventually skidding sideways down the interstate and jack knifing in the median.
Two of our firefighters were transported for minor injuries and the truck driver was transported with severe head and neck injuries.
Luckily the state trooper was not in the car.
