At 11am on July 22, 2005, Engine 433 (from Belmont City Fire) and Engine 320 (from Community VFD) responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-85 south at the Gaston/Mecklenburg County line.

Upon arrival Chief 4300 advised that it was a collision between a tractor trailer and a small car with one pin in and one entrapment.

Engine 433 was first to arrive on scene and deployed a rescue tool for extrication along with a protection line.

When Engine 320 arrived they assisted with patient care and extrication.

Soon after the engines arrived a infant was freed from entrapment while personnel from both companies work to free the infants mother from under the tractor trailer.

Gaston Emergency Medical Services took charge of the child while waiting for the mother to be freed.

The extrication took approximately twenty minutes in extreme heat which took it's toll on all personnel and patients.

Luckily for the patients, both sustained very minor injuries and were transported to Gaston Memorial Hospital.
