Pecatonica Fire Protection District responds to a garage fire in the area of Spring Hill Drive and Smith Roads.

Pecatonica, IL -- Pecatonica Fire Protection District responds to a garage fire in the area of Spring Hill Drive and Smith Roads.

The fire, located on the far eastern side of the 100 square mile fire district, had fully involved the structure and threatened numerous exposures.

Pecatonica received the call at approximately 4pm, on July 14, 2005.

Engine 1305, Squad 1340, Tanker 1370 responded from the Pecatonica station, while Engine 1502 and Tanker 1575 responded from the Seward Station. Since the fire was in a rural area of the fire district, mutual aid was requested from Win-Bur-Sew fire protection district for a Tanker.

On arrival Engine 1305 found a fully involved detached garage with a steel exterior.

The fire, accellerated by diesel fuel stored in the garage, moved very quickly. Firefighters took up a defensive posture on the fire structure and focused on protecting exposures, which included several small buildings and a home.

The residence suffered significant damage to the exterior siding on the North side, but was saved from further damage.

Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour.

The origin of the fire is still undetermined.
