New Jersey Firefighters Battle 3 Alarm Fire

The City of Ventnor Fire Department, a career department located in Atlantic County, New Jersey and the next door neighbor of Atlantic City is a relatively quiet fire department. But on the morning of April 25, 2003, firefighters were awoken by a fire alarm at Calvert and Derby Avenues in the Ventnor Heights section of the city.

The " Heights" is separated by the inter costal waterway from the city that itself lies along the Atlantic Ocean. Station 2 is located in the heights and was first due to a already leveled 2 story wood frame dwelling with exposures on the A and D sides having their siding being melted away from the searing heat. Engine 2's crew hit the hydrant on the corner and started hitting the exposures with their deluge gun. Crews responding from the city included the on duty deputy chief, Engine 1, and Truck 1.

Once the deputy chief turned onto Dorset Avenue and came across the bridge he radioed for a general alarm, bringing in all off duty personnel who responeded with Engines 3, 4, and the rescue. The Atlantic City FD sent one engine and ladder to the scene and the City of Margate FD sent Quint 24 to the scene.
